WSPIR is proud to have gotten permission last spring to assist in the maintenance of Hillgrove Cemetery in Seatac. We are planning our first 2006 “cleanup” day there on Sunday, June 11th. We will be there from 11:00 a.m. until the necessary work is done. Any and all assistance is needed!
Some of the activities that take place during a “cleanup” are:
• Mowing
• Pruning
• Weeding
• Planting
• Repairs
Some of the items we need for the cleanup are:
• Lawnmowers: If you have access to a riding mower…you’re our hero!
• Pruning shears
• Hedge trimmers
• Weed eaters
• Rakes
• Water for the plants…
• Shovels, trowels, etc…
• Short ladder
• Perennial plants that are sun and drought tolerant
• Bulbs to plant in shade and in sun
There is no source of running water at the cemetery, so I need everyone to try and save as many plastic milk jugs or other water carrying containers as possible so we can bring them to the cemetery filled with water. Many of the roses we planted last fall are in need of watering in order to make sure they survive this summer.
There are several areas of fence line that need repair…if anyone has any chicken wire laying around (no pun intended…chicken…laying…get it?) and some wire snips and other “fence-fixin” tools, please bring them…we need to reinforce what’s there to keep the vandals out!
One of the two wood benches at the cemetery is really “rickety”…perhaps someone might be able to work some magic with a tool box and some wood and repair it?
Cleanup is dirty work…dress for it…no open toed anything…bring knee pads or kneeling pads and something to snack on and to drink. If you need to sit, please bring a chair with you.
Please do what you can…WSPIR members have always been very generous with their time and resources and energy! Believe me; the residents of Hillgrove appreciate what we have done so far!
If you have any questions, please contact me at Patricia@wspir.com I look forward to seeing you at Hillgrove!

Just got a call from the Bonney Lake Fred Meyer, and they are donating a $50.00 gift card to WSPIR that we can use to buy some supplies for our cleanup at Hillgrove!
Woo-hoo!
